Trekking to the Khamar-Daban Mountain Range

Trekking to Lake Baikal Khamar Daban.

 

The Khamar-Daban mountain range is one of the most beautiful necklaces of Lake Baikal. It surrounds the sea-lake in the south. Primordial nature, mountain rivers, waterfalls, Siberian taiga, alpine meadows and lakes.
Duration: 9d/8n, Season: May – September,  Arrival dates: on request, Group size: 2-20 participants.

Day 1: Arrival in Irkutsk. Transfer to “Irkutsk” Hotel *** (former Intourist Hotel). Check-in. Rest. Lunch. Bus excursion around the city and visiting the embankment of the Angara River,  The tour includes a visit to Znamensky Church and monastery where are graves of some of the Decembrists. The explorer of Siberia and Alaska, “Russian Columbus” Gregory Shelikhovis, is also buried here.   Here the Russian scientist and military man, admiral Koltchak, was executed by the bolsheviks .  Koltchak  founded the Irkutsk State University. Excursion to the house of Decembrists. Dinner. On request - theater/organ hall.

Day 2: Breakfast. Transfer to Sludyanka (110km), small town situated on the shore of Baikal. Accommodation at Mr Zhigalov’s hostel - 3-5 persons rooms (facilities outside). Lunch. Preparation for the hike. Dinner.

Day 3: Breakfast. First part of trekking (18km). Lunch en route. Setting up a tent camp on the “Kazachia Clearing”. Dinner. Overnight in tents.

Day 4: Breakfast. Trekking to the waterfalls of the Podkomarnaya River, Chersky Peak (backpacks left in the camp). Lunch en route. Return to the camp by the dinner.

Day 5: Breakfast. Trekking to the Devil’s Gate Pass. According to the local hunters’ evidence UFOs have been seen here more than once. Lunch en route. Return to the camp by the dinner.

Day 6: Breakfast. Breaking the camp. Trekking back to Sludyanka. Lunch en route. Accommodation at the hostel. Banya. Dinner.

Day 7: Breakfast. Walk to the shore of Baikal and the Shamansky Cape, one of the 33 key-symbols of Baikal. Swimming, sunbathing at a sandy beach. Picnic - lunch. Dinner.

Day 8: Breakfast. Transfer to Irkutsk. Lunch en route. Check-in the hotel. Dinner.

Day 9: Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.

Note: on your request we can prolong or reduce the itinerary.

Important: It is necessary to have a change of clothes, extra shoes. Injections against ticks are recommended.
