Visit to Lake Baikal

 

Dates: 24.06 – 02.07; 08.07 – 16.07; 22.07 – 30.07; 05.08 – 13.08; 19.08 – 27.

Day 1: Friday
Arrival in Irkutsk. Transfer, accommodation – home stay in cozy apartments in very center of Irkutsk. The apartment block is located in 2 minute walking distance from the trade and cultural center of the city – Karl Marks Street which also leads you to the favorite Irkuskers’ and the city guests’ promenade place – the embankment of the Angara river. Most of the home stay hosts speak foreign languages. Double rooms. Walk around the down town.

Day 2: Saturday
Breakfast. Departure to the village of Listvyanka – settlement on the shore of lake Baikal at the source of its only outflow – the Angara river. On the way we visit the museum of wooden architecture “Taltsy” where over 30 samples of Siberian buildings and dwellings are presented. Arrival to Listvyanka, accommodation in a family guest house. Lunch. Walk around the settlement, visiting the souvenir market where you can also taste shashlik or baikalian fish. Dinner.

Day 3: Sunday
Breakfast. Crossing the Angara river to Port Baikal by boat. Boarding a tourist train to Sludyanka, town situated on the south-western shore of Baikal. The train goes along the Old Circum Baikal Railroad – monument of architecture and engineering art of the beginning of the XXth century, where we make a few stops to take pictures of the most picturesque places. After 8 hours of the trip we arrive to Sludyanka. Before taking seats in an awaiting bus you’ll take a look at the buildings of Sludyanka railway station constructed of marble blocks at the beginning of last century. Transfer to Mr Zhigalov’s museum and guest house. The Zhigalov’s family is very famous in Sludyanka and all over Russia as well as their mineralogical museum, where over 10000 samples from all over the world are presented. After dinner you will hear a story about the history of the museum and the life of stones by Valeri Zhigalov of his wife Luba.

Day 4: Monday
Breakfast. Walk to the shore of Baikal to see one of the 30 key simbols of the lake – Shamansky Cape, which was considered to be a sacred place for the locals – Buryats and Evenki peoples. Here spiritual rituals and ceremonies had been held. In July 7^th, 2004 after long break shamans of Buryatia, Mongolia and Tuva republic served a sacred ceremony on the cape. Picnic lunch. Time at leisure. Dinner.

Day 5: Tuesday
Breakfast. Trekking up the Sludyanka river. You will go through real Siberian Taiga – forest where we still drink from mountains creeks, collect berries, mushrooms and cedar nuts. Picnic lunch. Return to Sludyanka. Dinner.

Day 6: Wednesday
Breakfast. Packing up to travel to the Tounka National Park, situated on the territory of the Republic of Buryatia. On the way you will make stops by sacred places, both shamanistic and Buddhists. Lunch at a small cafe on the border of Irkutsk region and Buryatia. Arrival to Arshan – a spa resort, located at the foot of the Sayans mountains. Accommodation at local families. Dinner.

Day 7: Thursday
Breakfast. Walk to mineral springs and waterfall on the Kingarga river. Visiting datsan – Buddhist temple. Lunch. Time at leisure. Dinner

Day 8: Friday
Breakfast. Departure to Irkutsk. Lunch at a cafe on Koultuk hill – picturesque view of Baikal. Arrival to Irkutsk. Accommodation.

Day 9: Saturday
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Seeing-off.
