Visit Zvenigorod

A visit to Zvenigorod is a great Moscow day trip.

 

Zvenigorod is about 45 k to the west of the center of Moscow. The drive is about 1 hours and through charming country side. Allow about 6 hours for the tour. Includes transport, guide, entry to the museums in the monastery. On the way we travel the Rubelievsky Highway. The  Rubelievsky is famous for housing some of Russia's most powerful and elite.

Zvenigorod is an ancient town known from the 14thC. It is rich in Russian history. It is one of the lesser known Russian tours. The town is dominated by a monastery that was a favorite of the Father of Peter the Great who built there two palaces. The monastery stands on a hill overlooking the Moscow river. A nice spot for a picnic or an afternoon of fishing. The water is also quite clean and offers good swimming in the summer. Here remain the only fragments of the frescoes of Andrei Rublyov in the Moscow region. Zvenigorod is a great place for a walk along the bank of the Moscow River.
